Poe, by J. Lincoln Fenn

Halloween is rapidly approaching and I’ve got a wonderful book for you to read: Poe, by J. Lincoln Fenn (Amazon Link) is great fun from start to finish. It’s a romantic-comedy-horror novel all wrapped up in one near perfect roller coaster of a read. It has a truly likable cast of characters (well, most of them) caught-up in a series of mysteries, gruesome murders, and marvelously laugh-out-loud-funny dialogue.

The unlikely hero, 23-year-old Dimitri Petrov is the obituary writer for a small town newspaper assigned to write a feature article about a haunted house on Halloween. With some friends in tow, all the stuff you’d expect in a “haunted house” happen and starts Petrov on a self-appointed detective’s quest to connect the dots, so to speak. Along the way, he befriends Lisa, whom he falls for, but she’s got her own mysteries.

Without giving away any spoilers, I can assure you that Poe has it all, from good demons and bad, murder, possessions, spirits, and every other cliche that you’d expect — except that the author, Ms. Fenn, gives them all new twists, and almost everyone (living and dead) seems to have stand-up comic potential.

Reading Poe was a pleasure, and at only $1.99 for the Kindle edition, it’s a bargain, too!
